Baseball Bisons Sweep GAC Doubleheader at Ouachita

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Harding baseball used a three-run seventh inning in game one and a solo home run in the seventh inning of game two to sweep Ouachita Baptist by scores of 6-3 and 1-0 on Saturday in Great American Conference action at Rab Rodgers Field. With the two wins, Harding won the series 2-games-to-1. Ouachita won Friday's game 4-1.

Harding improved to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in GAC games. Ouachita fell to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the GAC.

Harding trailed 2-1 entering the seventh inning of game one. With one out, Zac Stewart singled to center for his second hit of the game. He stole second and scored on Grant Guest's single to left. Guest then stole second and went to third on a throwing error by the catcher before scoring on Alan Copeland's double to left that gave Harding a 3-2 lead. Jesse Cox singled with two outs to score Copeland with the third run of the inning.

Ouachita cut the lead to 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Ty Owens hit a one-out, solo home run off Harding starter Andrew Ralston. Jacob Stripling came in for the Bisons and got the last two outs of the inning.

Harding tacked on two more runs in the ninth. Noah Chandler walked to lead off the inning and later scored on an error. Cox doubled for his second hit of the game and scored on Harrison Hunter's sacrifice fly.

Ralston (2-2) earned the win, pitching 6 1/3 innings and allowing only three hits and three earned runs. He walked four, hit three and struck out three. Joshua Spears earned his first save of the season by recording the last four outs.

John Franklin Matros (0-3) remained winless for Ouachita. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings and struck out five.

Stewart, Guest and Cox each had two hits. Stewart scored twice, and Guest drove in two runs.

Harding only had two hits in game two off Ouachita starter Connor Reed (1-3), but Jaxon Mohr's home run to left on a 3-1 count with two outs in the bottom of the seventh was all the Bisons needed. Harding's only other hit was a Guest single in the first inning.

Hunter Payne (3-2) was outstanding on the mound for the Bisons. He needed only 83 pitches in the shutout, scattering seven hits, walking none and striking out four.

Ouachita designated hitter Preston Speers had three of the Tigers' seven hits.

Harding's next game in a non-conference matchup Tuesday at Henderson State. The Bisons host Oklahoma Baptist next Friday and Saturday in GAC action.
