Harding Pitchers Shut Down Union in 5-1 Victory

SEARCY – Harding scored twice in the second and added two more in the sixth and got outstanding work from five pitchers to defeat Union 5-1 on Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field. It was Harding's last non-conference game of the season.

The Bisons improved to 22-25 overall and host Arkansas Tech on Friday and Saturday in a three-game Great American Conference series that will determine the team's postseason fate.

Union lost to Harding for the second time this season and fell to 19-25. The Bisons defeated the Bulldogs 16-14 in the first meeting at Union on March 22.

KEY INNINGS
  • Harding took a 2-0 lead in the second. Grant Guest walked to lead off and went to second on an infield single by Zach Beasley. Davis Richardson doubled down the right field line to score Guest. It was Richardson's 19th RBI. Beasley moved to third on the play and scored on Noah Chandler's ground out.
  • Two of Union's four hits came back to back in the fourth inning and produced the Bulldogs' only run. With one out Tyler Mauzy doubled to right and scored on Dylan Moore's single to center.
  • Harding tacked on two runs with two outs in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. Zach Beasley walked with one out and was replaced by pinch runner John Chapman. Two batters later Chandler singled off Union relief pitcher Andrew Wilson, and Chapman went all the way to third. Alan Copeland's line drive just over the outstretched glove of Union second baseman Austin Orr scored Chapman. Chandler scored on a Union error to make the score 4-1.
  • Chapman walked to lead off the ninth, stole second and third and scored the first run on Chandler's sacrifice fly to center.
