Hunter's Double Ignites Harding's 1-0 Victory in Home Finale

SEARCY – Harding baseball won game that was scoreless through nine innings for the first time in the program's NCAA era Monday with a 1-0, 11-inning victory Monday over Arkansas Tech in its final home game of the season. The teams split a doubleheader Sunday.

As Harding's game moved into extra innings, attention also turned to the game between Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello, which started one hour later. That game also went into extra innings with Southern Arkansas winning 4-3. The result sends No. 7 Harding to No. 2 Arkansas-Monticello for the opening round of the Great American Conference Tournament.

Harding (24-26, 15-18) and Arkansas-Monticello will begin the three-game series Friday at 3 p.m. in Monticello. Saturday's first game will begin at noon, and the teams will play the third game of the series to follow, if necessary. The winner of the series advances to play in final four of GAC Tournament on May 12-14 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

Harding senior Harrison Hunter will not soon forget his last at-bat at Jerry Moore Field. His double down the right field line scored Jaxon Mohr with the game-winning run and set off a water-squirting celebration near the second base bag. The Bisons had been hitless in 15 at-bats in the game with runners on base.

Harding used four pitchers, and each allowed only one hit. Reliever Reed Roberts (4-1) won his second game of the series by pitching a scoreless top of the 11th. Andrew Ralston started and struck out five in five inning in his best start of the season. Jackson Ward pitched three scoreless innings and Jacob Stripling added two more.

Arkansas Tech (21-29, 12-21), the No. 8 seed in the tournament, will travel to Weatherford, Oklahoma, to take on No. 1 seed Southwestern Oklahoma. The Wonder Boys used eight pitchers Monday. John Beck gave up a leadoff single to Mohr in the 11th and took the loss to drop to 0-1.

Chris Taylor had his seventh multi-hit game for Harding, going 2-for-5. Marcus Wilson was 3-for-4 with a double for Tech. He had three of the Wonder Boys' four hits and also walked once.
