Harding Men's Soccer Blanks Williams Baptist for Fourth Straight Victory

SEARCY – Harding men's soccer scored a late first half goal, turned up the offense pressure in the second half and added two more in a 3-0 shutout of Williams Baptist on Tuesday in non-conference men's soccer action at Stevens Field.

The victory was Harding's fourth consecutive, all shutouts, and the Bisons improved to 4-1 to start a season for the first time since 2001, the second season of the program's history. The wins total matches Harding's victory haul from last season.

Harding's defense has not allowed a goal in 360 minutes and yielded only two long-distance shots on goal Tuesday. Williams Baptist (0-2-0) had only seven total shots and none on goal in the second half.

Senior forward Austin McAlister scored Harding's first goal in the 38th minute. Freshman Braeden Grundy, into the game off the bench for just over five minutes, beat his defender to the end line. He sent a pass into the box, and McAlister blasted in the goal from 12 yards outs for his first goal of the season and his career.

Harding's second-half goals came less than two minutes apart. Junior Mathaus Ribeiro crossed into the box to sophomore Cooper Mosely, whose shot slid under the arm of Williams Baptist goalkeeper Javier Piedra in the 68th minute. Mosely also scored Harding's game-winning goal against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday.

Sophomore Jason Diaz scored on a penalty kick a minute later for his second goal of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Tyler Melson, making his first start of the season, made two easy saves in the first half to earn his second career shutout.

Harding returns to action Thursday with another home game. The Bisons host Delta State at 7 p.m.
