BETHANY, Okla. – Jeremy Nwonumah scored twice to help the Harding men's soccer team defeat Southern Nazarene 4-2 on Saturday in Great American Conference action. It was the Bisons seventh win of the season which tied for the most wins in program history. Harding won seven in 2002 and 2003.
RECORDS
Harding improves to 7-1-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in the GAC. Southern Nazarene falls to 1-7-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the GAC.
GOALS
Harding 1, Southern Nazarene 0 – 1st minute – Matheus Ribeiro scored from 18-yards out 22 seconds into the game. It was the fastest goal in program history.
Harding 2, Southern Nazarene 0 – 9th minute – Jason Diaz sent in a cross that found the head of Jeremy Nwonumah who found the back of the net.
Harding 3, Southern Nazarene 0 – 32nd minute – Barry Foster sent a cross from the right side to find Austin McAlister who scored from 6-yards out.
Harding 3, Southern Nazarene 1 – 38th minute – Mitchell Johnson scored from 25-yards out off a free kick.
Harding 4, Southern Nazarene 1 – 65th minute – Jeremy Rector found Jeremy Nwonumah who beat the keeper on the left side for his second goal of the game.
Harding 4, Southern Nazarene 2 – 79th minute – Gabriel Conteh hit a cross from the right side in front of the goal for Alan Armstrong to score.
TEAM STATS
It was Harding's fifth straight win over Southern Nazarene.
It was the second time this season the Bisons have scored three goals in the first half. Harding scored as many in the 4-0 win at Dallas Christian.
Harding took 20 shots in the game, nine were on goal.
Southern Nazarene took 16 shots, 10 were on goal.
Ten cards were given in the game as two players received two yellow cards. Harding played with 10 men for the last 17 minutes and Southern Nazarene played with 10 men for the final minute.
INDIVIDUAL STATS
Matheus Ribeiro's goal beat the previous fastest goal by 22 seconds. Jeff Ireland (2001-02) scored 44 seconds into the game against Lynn in 2001.
Barry Foster led the Bisons with five shots, one on goal.
Alan Armstrong and Christian Hernandex each took four shots for Southern Nazarene.
