Harding Men's Soccer Sets Program Wins Record with Another Shutout

SEARCY – Freshman Christian Ramos scored his first goal of the season and sophomore Matheus Ribeiro added his team-leading fourth as Harding remained undefeated at home with a 2-0 victory over William Jewell on Tuesday at Stevens Field.

Harding improved to 8-2-0 overall, setting a school record for victories in a single season. The previous record of seven wins came in the 2002 and 2003 seasons.

William Jewell, a Division II college in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, fell to 2-6-0 and was shutout for the fourth time this season. It was Harding's seventh. The Bisons are now 4-0-0 at home and have outscored their opponents 7-0.

Ramos, a native of Denton, Texas, collected the ball near midfield, dribbled near the top of the box and unleashed a low shot inside the near post. He was the seventh different player in Harding's eight wins to score the game-winning goal.

Ribeiro doubled Harding's lead in the 50th minute. Freshman Braeden Grundy crossed from the right of the 18-yard box to Ribeiro just outside the 6-yard box. Ribeiro touched home the goal, and Grundy received his third assist.

Harding dominated possession in the game and outshot William Jewell, 28-11. The Bisons had nine corner kicks, and the Cardinals had none.

Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Wasson made three saves in recording his sixth shutout. It was also his seventh win this season as a goalkeeper, tying the school record of Michael Allen in 2003.

The Bisons have a week off before their next game. Harding will host Ouachita Baptist in a Great American Conference game next Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
