Nwonumah Scores Game-Winner to Lift Harding Men's Soccer over Ouachita Baptist

SEARCY – Harding men's soccer remained the only undefeated team in the Great American Conference with a 1-0 victory over Ouachita Baptist Tuesday at Stevens Field.

Harding has won its last four home games and improved to 4-4-2 overall and 3-0-0 in the GAC. Ouachita remained winless in three road games this season and fell to 3-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference.

How it Happened
After a scoreless first half, Harding scored the only goal of the game in the 65th minute. Junior midfielder Jason Diaz sent a long looping pass from near the sideline at midfield to the far side of the 18-yard box. Junior forward Jeremy Nwonumah attempted to head the ball on goal, but the ball deflected off his body and landed just beside. From his back, Nwonumah located the loose ball and scissor-kicked it past Ouachita Baptist goalkeeper Edward Pachecho.

Nwonumah came off the bench and was Harding's best scoring threat throughout. He had five shots, including three of Harding's four shots on goal.

Ouachita Baptist had most of the scoring opportunities late in the game, but Harding freshman goalkeeper Aric McKinney, making his first career start, made four saves. He also received help from his back line. Harding defenders twice cleared balls off the goal line on Ouachita shot attempts.

Facts and Figures
Harding, who averaged a GAC-high 18.7 shots per game, outshot Ouachita 20-16.

McKinney's shutout was Harding's third of the season and his first.

It was Harding's second straight shutout of Ouachita. The Bisons defeated the Tigers 2-0 last season in the semifinals of the GAC Tournament.

Nwonumah's goal was his third of the season and his second game-winning goal. He now has 11 career goals.

Diaz's assist was his team-leading third of the season and 13th of his career, moving him into fourth at Harding in career assists. Mitch Jones (2000-03) holds the record with 18.

Ouachita's leading scorer this season, Tinashe Chigege (seven goals), came off the bench and managed four shots, one on goal.
