Hot-Shooting Third Quarter Lifts Harding Women's Basketball over Northwestern Oklahoma

SEARCY – Harding made its first 10 shots in the third quarter and pulled away from Northwestern Oklahoma 93-63 in Great American Conference women's basketball action Thursday at Rhodes-Reaves Field House. It was Harding's 20th straight home victory.

Harding improved to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in conference, defeating Northwestern (4-3, 2-1) for the 11th consecutive time.

The Lady Bisons led 33-30 at halftime but had 13 turnovers that the Lady Rangers converted into 15 points.

The key to Harding's third-quarter turnaround came around the basket. The Lady Bisons' first eight shots were all layups. Harding shot 13 of 16 in the quarter and limited Northwestern to 1 of 16. The Lady Bisons outscored the Lady Rangers 30-6 in the third quarter and led 63-36.

Three-pointers by Amanda Kearney and Sydney Layrock opened the fourth quarter and gave Harding a 33-point lead.

Harding added 30 more points in the fourth quarter and outpaced Northwestern 60-33 in the second half.

Layrock and freshman Kellie Lampo led Harding with 17 points each. Caroline Hogue had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Sydnie Jones scored 11 points.

Aneli Thompson came off the bench led Northwestern with 13 points in only 11 minutes. Jade Jones scored 10 points.

Harding shot a season-high 54.8 percent from the field and had a 52-25 rebound advantage.
