Late 3s Lift Hawaii Pacific over Harding at Hoops in Hawaii Classic

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Tim Wagner scored a season-high 26 points and Preston Anderson added 18 for Harding, but two late 3-pointers from Hawaii Pacific put the Sharks ahead for good in a 79-72 victory over the Bisons. The game was tied 13 times and had 16 lead changes.

Harding (0-9) took a 68-67 lead on two Braden Eggleston free throws with 2:36 left. Hawaii Pacific answered with a David Rowlands 3-pointer from the left wing and a Spencer Vering 3-pointer on the Sharks next trip to take a 73-68 lead.

The Bisons cut the lead 75-72 on a Reggie Anthony layup with 11 seconds left, but Hawaii Pacific (6-4) made four free throws to seal the win.

Wagner led all scorers and topped the 20-point mark for the second time in the last three games. He was 10 of 17 from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Anderson also had four 3-pointers.

Hawaii Pacific's Niksha Federico, who entered the game sixth in Division II in scoring and 10th in rebounding, led the Sharks with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Harding shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and led 33-32 at halftime. Wagner was 5 of 6 shooting and led the Bisons with 11 points. Anderson made two of Harding's three 3-pointers and had eight.

Hawaii Pacific had 17 offensive rebounds and outscored Harding 17-6 on second-chance points.

Harding's next action is Jan. 9 at Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma.
