Harding Women's Basketball Shuts Down Christian Brothers

SEARCY – Harding women's basketball used a stifling defense and a strong offensive third quarter to defeat Christian Brothers 61-37 in nonconference action Saturday at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding (4-6) limited Christian Brothers to only 20.8 percent shooting, the lowest shooting percentage by a Lady Bison opponent this season, and opened a 20-point lead by outscoring the Lady Bucs 21-7 in the third quarter.

Freshman Amanda Kearney led Harding with a season-high 15 points, 10 coming in the second half. She was 5 of 10 from the field, including two 3-pointers, and added six rebounds. Post players Sydney Layrock and Kellie Lampo both scored 10 points, and Harding outscored Christian Brothers 32-10 in the paint.

Guard Brynne Lytle led Christian Brothers (2-7) with 10 points. She had four of the Lady Bucs 10 field goals.

Harding led 27-21 at halftime, but shot 9 of 19 in the third quarter and held Christian Brothers to only 1-of-8 shooting in the period. The Lady Bisons led 48-28 entering the fourth quarter.

Harding's next action is in Hawaii, where the Lady Bisons will take on Hawaii Pacific Saturday, Dec. 16 and Montana State-Billings Sunday, Dec. 17.
