Harding Falls 95-94 in GAC's First Triple Overtime Game

SEARCY – Arkansas-Monticello junior Karim Mawuenyega made two of three free throws with 6.9 seconds remaining to give the 17th-ranked Weevils a 95-94 victory over Harding in the first triple-overtime game in Great American Conference history.

It was the third triple overtime game in Harding program history and the first since the 1993-94 season. The game was tied 15 times and had 20 lead changes.
The last lead change came on Mawuenyega's free throws. With Harding leading 94-93, Mawuenyega's 3-point attempt was short, but a foul was called on the follow through. He made the first free throw to tie the game, missed the second, and after a timeout, hit the third.

Tim Wagner's layup on the final play of the game came up just short.

Filip Medjo hit two free throws with 44 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime tied at 66-66. Arkansas-Monticello's Derylton Hill made a layup at the buzzer of the first overtime to tie the game 75-75 and send it to double overtime, where Harding's J.P. Brandon made a layup with 10 seconds left to push the game to triple overtime, tied 82-82.

Harding had five players score 10 or more points, led by Wagner with 23 on 8-of-18 shooting. Wagner played 52 minutes in the game. Medjo had 19 points and seven assists, Stefan Andelkovic had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Will Francis had 13 points and eight assists.

Arkansas-Monticello had three players with 20 or more. Vicktor Arnick led the Weevils with 24 points, Tyrin Jones had 22 and Mawuenyega had 20 points and eight assists.

Harding shot 70 percent and led by as many as 17 points in the first half, but Arkansas-Monticello made six of its last seven field goal attempts and cut the halftime margin to 40-35.

Both teams scored 50 points in the paint.

With the victory, Arkansas-Monticello improved to 19-2 overall and 15-2 in the GAC and remained in first place by two games over Arkansas Tech and East Central.

Harding fell to 13-8 overall and 10-7 in conference games. The Bisons remain in fourth place, one-half game ahead of Southern Nazarene.

Harding is back in action Monday at Arkansas Tech. The Bisons will play four of their last five on the road, with the lone home game next Thursday against Henderson State.
