SEARCY – Harding used a 31-point first quarter to pull away from Ouachita Baptist early and cruise to an 85-54 victory on Thursday in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The victory was Harding's 12th in its last 13 games and boosted the 25th-ranked Lady Bisons' record to 18-3 overall and 15-1 in conference play. Harding maintained its two-game lead over Arkansas Tech in the GAC standings. Tech defeated Southern Arkansas 83-40 in Russellville.

Harding improved to 10-0 at home this season, winning its 12th straight at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House dating to last season. It is the third-longest home winning streak in program history.

Ouachita dropped to 9-13 overall and 6-10 in conference games. The Tigers have lost eight of their last 10 and are in danger of missing the GAC Tournament with only six games remaining in the regular season. Ouachita has won only once in nine road games this season.

Harding opened with a 20-2 run and led 31-9 after the first quarter as A'ndi Haney raced from end-to-end to hit a layup as time expired. It was Harding's third first quarter this season with 30 or more points.

Both teams shot 32 percent in the second quarter with Harding outscoring Ouachita 17-16 and taking a 48-25 lead into halftime.

Harding held a 26-8 advantage in the paint in the first half with posts Caroline Hogue (13 points) and Sydney Layrock (12 points) doing most of the damage. Layrock reached a double-double in the first half, with 10 of Harding's 32 rebounds.

Hogue led Harding with 23 points, Layrock had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Sydney Jones had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Haney had 10 points and seven assists.

Madison Brittain led Ouachita with 16 points.

Alivia Huell, Ouachita's leading scorer at more than 11 points per game, fouled out in the third quarter and did not score.

Ouachita shot only 27.9 percent in the game, the seventh time this season Harding has held an opponent below 30 percent.

The game was Harding's third of four straight home games. The home stretch concludes Saturday when the Lady Bisons host Arkansas-Monticello at 5:30 p.m. Arkansas-Monticello defeated Henderson State 81-73 on Thursday.
