Baseball Bisons Complete Sweep of Ouachita, Jump Three Spots in GAC Standings

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Harding came from behind twice Monday and defeated Ouachita Baptist 11-8 to sweep the Tigers in a three-game Great American Conference series played at Henderson State's artificial turf Clyde Berry Field.

Harding won 5-2 and 4-3 in Sunday's doubleheader, improved to 7-14 overall and evened its GAC record at 6-6. The Bisons started the series tied for eighth and finished it tied for fifth.

The Bisons set season highs in runs (11), hits (14) and extra-base (six) in the game.

Trailing 4-0 after one inning, Harding responded with four of its own in the second to tie the game. Ouachita took the lead again with a run in the top of the fourth, but Harding scored four in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good.

Zach Beasley, who was 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs, drove in two in the inning with a triple to left, his fourth extra-base hit of the series. The hit gave Harding a 6-5 lead. Ben Brauss then doubled to score Beasley, and Brody Ninemire singled to score Brauss and make it 8-5.

Ouachita closed to within a run at 8-7 on Josh Weigle's two-run home run in the sixth, but Harding pulled away with an RBI double from Myles Humphreys in the bottom of the sixth, Brauss drove in another with a triple in the seventh, and Ninemire scored Brauss with another Harding double.

Sam Alender (1-1), the third of Harding's seven pitchers, earned the win. He pitched 2 2/3 innings and was in when Harding took over the lead for good. Lefty Raiff Beever pitched the ninth for his first save.

Ouachita starter Abe Young (2-4) took the loss, allowing eight earned runs in five innings.

Beasley, Brauss and Ninemire had three hits each. Chris Taylor had a hit and walked three times. Weigle was 4-for-5 to lead Ouachita.

Harding's scheduled non-conference game with Henderson State on Tuesday has been postponed and will be made up at a later date.
