Southern Arkansas Hits Two Homers in 7-0 Victory over Harding Baseball

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Mark Fontenot and Cortland McPherson both hit home runs and Kenneth Tabor pitched eight shutout innings as No. 7 Southern Arkansas completed a three-game sweep of the Harding baseball team with a 7-0 victory Saturday at Goodheart Field.

Southern Arkansas (32-7, 25-2) won Friday's doubleheader 12-9 and 9-6 and remains in first place in the GAC standings. Harding (16-24, 11-16) remained in seventh in the GAC among tournament-eligible teams.

McPherson's two-run home run came in the second off Harding starter Jackson Ward (2-5). Southern Arkansas scored two more in the fifth and led 4-0.

Fontenot's two-run home run came in the seventh to put the Muleriders up 6-0. Logan McCall relieved Ward after the second home run. McCall pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up an unearned run in the eighth.

Tabor (8-1) allowed six hits, walked three and struck out eight over eight innings.

Leadoff hitter Ben Brauss had two of Harding's seven hits. Brauss had five hits, including a grand slam, in the three-game series.

Harding's next game is a non-conference matchup Tuesday at Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
