Jackson Ward Leads Harding Baseball to Split at Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Harding junior left-hander Jackson Ward allowed only one hit over 5 2/3 relief innings to lead the Bisons to a doubleheader split with Arkansas Tech on Friday in Great American Conference baseball action at Tech Field.

Harding won game two 6-2 after Tech won the opener 19-3.

With the split, Harding moved to 22-26 overall and 14-18 in the GAC. The Bisons have already qualified for the GAC Tournament but seeding is still to be determined. Arkansas Tech moved to 31-18 and 23-9 in the GAC.

Ward (3-6), normally a starter, came in for starter Mason Faulkner in the bottom of the second inning after Tech's Kyle Gibbs hit a two-run home run to put the Wonder Boys ahead 2-1.
The only hit Ward allowed the rest of the way was a single to Marcus Wilson in the fifth. Wilson was then erased on an inning-ending double play.

Trailing 2-1 entering the top of the third, Harding scored four runs without a hit to take the lead for good. The Bisons loaded the bases on two walks and a hit-by-pitch. Chris Taylor was hit by a pitch to drive in a run, then Zach Beasley walked to drive in another. The third run of the inning came on a Myles Humphries sacrifice fly, and Taylor scored the fourth run on a wild pitch.

Harding tacked on its sixth run on another Humphreys sacrifice fly in the fifth. The Bisons won the game with only three hits, two from Taylor, including his ninth double.

Wonder Boy starter Trent Armstrong (5-4) took the loss in game two, allowing four earned runs on two hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Zach Klockowski went 4-for-5 with five runs scored, seven RBIs and two home runs to lead Arkansas Tech to its 19-3 win in game one.

Kyle Wilson (8-0) pitched five scoreless innings and struck out seven to earn the win. Harding starter Austin Allen (6-5) took the loss, giving up six earned runs in two innings.

Harding scored all three of its runs in the top of the seventh. Ben Brauss and Grant Guest both had RBIs in the inning and Guest scored on a passed ball.

Luke Van Dover had two of Harding's seven hits, including his seventh double of the season.

The final game of the series is schedule for Saturday at 1 p.m. in Russellville.
