Nwonumah's Overtime Goal Lifts Harding Men's Soccer over Oklahoma Baptist

SEARCY, Ark. – If Harding's Jeremy Nwonumah scoring in overtime to defeat Oklahoma Baptist sounds familiar, it's because it has happened before.

Saturday the junior from Chicago scored in the 100th minute to give Harding a 3-2 come-from-behind overtime victory over Oklahoma Baptist at Stevens Field. The victory gave the Bisons a 2-0 start in the Great American Conference and put them alone in first place in the four-team league.

Harding improved to 3-3-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the GAC with its third consecutive victory. Oklahoma Baptist fell to 2-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference.

Nwonumah's goal was reminiscent of his strike last season against Oklahoma Baptist, when he scored in the 103rd minute to give Harding a 4-3 come-from-behind victory. Harding trailed 3-0 in that game.

Saturday, Harding trailed 2-1 after 66 minutes, but in the 67th minute sophomore Braeden Grundy knocked in a rebound off a save on a Nwomumah shot to tie the game.

With 45 seconds left in the first overtime period, Nwonumah struck again with the game-winner.

Harding held a 1-0 lead early on Andre Cunha's team-leading fifth goal of the season. Oklahoma Baptist responded with second-half goals from Alejandro Castillo in the 56th minute and Michael Stewart in the 62nd minute.
