Harding Falls to Arkansas-Monticello in GAC Road Action

MONTICELLO – Arkansas-Monticello senior Derylton Hill scored 32 points and the Weevils took advantage of Harding turnovers to defeat the Bisons 90-62 Saturday in Great American Conference play at Steelman Field House.

Arkansas-Monticello (11-5, 6-4) won its third straight overall and improved to 4-1 in GAC home games. Harding (1-15, 1-10) will return to the Rhodes-Reaves Field House on Thursday to take on East Central.

Arkansas-Monticello scored 37 points off 23 Harding turnovers.

UAM used a 15-0 run early in the first half to open a 12-point lead over Harding with 10:46 left. The Bisons trimmed the Weevil lead to five twice late in the half, the second time on a Tyler Roth layup with 3:02 remaining that cut the UAM lead to 36-31.

UAM outscored Harding 7-2 in the final three minutes and led 43-33 at halftime.

Tim Wagner came off the bench and made 4 of 5 shots to lead Harding with 11 points in the first half. Derylton Hill made 7 of 10 shots and led UAM with 15 points.

Zac Ward made a 3-pointer to open the second half, and Harding trailed 43-36.

With 17:45 left, UAM's Tyrin Jones connected on a jumper to put the Weevils up 51-41. Arkansas-Monticello led by at least 10 the rest of the way and had a margin of 29 late in the game. The Weevils shot 17 of 22 (77 percent) at the foul line. The Bisons were 6 of 8 (75 percent).

Hill shot 13 of 20 from the field and made all six free throws.

Tim Wagner led Harding with 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting and made three 3-pointers. Ward made two 3-pointers and scored 13.

The Bisons will be back in action Thursday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House. Harding will host East Central for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
