Second-Half Spurt Keys Harding Victory over Southeastern Oklahoma

SEARCY – Harding had one of its best defensive halves of the season and used an early run after the break to defeat Southeastern Oklahoma 73-67 on Saturday at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding (2-16, 2-11) held Southeastern without a field goal for more than seven minutes in the second half and went on a 14-0 run to pull away after the game was tied 31-31 at halftime. The Savage Storm missed 10 straight shots during the run, and Harding led 51-36 with 10:36 left.

Southeastern (9-9, 8-5), playing its fourth consecutive road game, got no closer than six the rest of the game.

Very little separated the teams in the first half.

A 10-0 Southeastern run followed by an 8-0 Harding run kept the score close, and Braden Eggleston's 3-pointer tied the game at 20-20 with 6:28 left in the half. It was the first of four ties in the first half, the last coming at the buzzer as Reggie Anthony drove into the lane and connected on a floater to knot the game at 31-31 at the break.

Southeastern shot 42 percent in the half, and Harding shot 39 percent. Southeastern's Kevin Buckingham led all scorers with 12 points, shooting 5 of 9 from the field, and had nine rebounds.
Harding took the lead on a Brandon Reeves layup on its first possession of the second half and led 37-36 with 18:03 left. The Bisons led from then on.

Zac Ward made four of Harding's eight 3-pointers and led the Bisons with 17 points. Eggleston also hit two 3s and scored 14 points. Reggie Anthony had 10 points, seven assists and three blocked shots, and Tyler Roth tied his season high with nine points and had six rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Kevin Buckingham led Southeastern with 26 points and 14 rebounds.

Harding will return to the road this week with games Thursday at Southwestern Oklahoma and Saturday at Northwestern Oklahoma.
