Harding Men's Soccer Comes Back Twice to Defeat Oklahoma Baptist 4-2

SEARCY – Harding scored two goals in each half and overcame two one-goal deficits in a 4-2 Great American Conference victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at Stevens Field.

Harding won its second straight conference game and improved to 8-4-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the GAC. The Bisons are part of a three-way tie for first place with one conference game left to play. Harding plays Ouachita Baptist on Oct. 23 in Searcy in its final GAC game. Harding plays again Tuesday at home against Mississippi College.

Oklahoma Baptist (2-12-0, 1-4-0) lost its second straight, is two games back of the three leaders, and will finish fourth in the conference standings.

With the game tied 2-2 at halftime, Harding scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute. Riley Mayes scored his first collegiate goal on a header off a feed from Andre Cunha. Ten minutes later Cunha scored his first goal of the season on a long chip over the Oklahoma Baptist goalkeeper.

Oklahoma Baptist led twice in the first half. Jesus Andrade scored in the 14th minute, but Harding answered with Jason Diaz's fourth goal of the season. Braeden Grundy had the assist to tie the game at 1-1.

Oklahoma Baptist took its second lead in the 35th minute with Andrew Simon scoring for the first time this season on a pass from Andrade.

With a little less than three minutes left in the half, Christian Ramos knotted the game at 2-2 with his fourth goal on a feed from Justin Kucera.

Oklahoma Baptist had five yellow cards in the game, including two that went to Cade Cummings. His second came in the 81st minute, leaving Oklahoma Baptist a man down for the rest of the game.
