Lampo Leads Harding to Victory in Season Opener

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sophomore Kellie Lampo scored a game-high 23 points, including a go-ahead layup with just over a minute left, to lead Harding to a 59-54 victory over Concordia-St. Paul at the Central Region Conference Challenge, played at Municipal Auditorium.

With 1:32 left, Concordia's Anna Schmitt hit a layup to put the Golden Bears up 54-43. Lampo came right back to connect on a layup with 1:14 left that sparked a 6-0 Harding run down the stretch. Lampo hit another shot with 18 seconds left, and Carissa Caples made two free throws just before the buzzer.

Caples had 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Cheyenne Brown added 10 points and six rebounds, and Brooke Bradley had eight points, six rebounds and four assists.

Schmitt, the Northern Sun Conference Preseason Player of the Year, had 17 points to lead Concordia.

Lampo was 10-of-15 from the field. As a team, Harding shot 38 percent (24 of 63), and Concordia shot 36 percent (21 of 59).

Harding returns to the Municipal Auditorium court Saturday to take on No. 1-ranked and defending national champion Central Missouri.
