Bethany Sutherland Named Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-America

SEARCY – Bethany Sutherland, a senior midfielder on the Harding University women's soccer team, received Google Cloud/CoSIDA Second-Team Academic All-America honors Wednesday. It was her second straight season to earn second-team honors.

Sutherland, an elementary education major from Orange, California, has a 3.75 GPA.

During the 2018 season, Sutherland scored 11 goals and added six assists in 17 games. She had two game-winning goals.

Sutherland scored a school-record 62 goals and had 19 assists in 77 games over her four-year career. Sixteen of her goals were game winners.

Sutherland's is the seventh Academic All-America honor for a Harding women's soccer player since 2004. She and Audrey Adkison (2014 and 2015) are the only two Lady Bison soccer players to earn Academic All-America twice.

CoSIDA is the College Sports Information Directors of America. Members of CoSIDA vote on the Academic All-America nominees from the pool of Division II's CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status academically and athletically and have a 3.30 cumulative GPA or higher to qualify for nomination.

Sutherland was one of three Great American Conference women's soccer players to earn the honor. Erica Brunet of Southwestern Oklahoma was a second-team honoree, and Sandra Nabweteme of Southwestern Oklahoma was on the third team.

Sutherland's award was Harding's 81st Academic All-America honor since 1978.
