Late Layup Lifts Tech over Harding Women's Basketball

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech's Jayana Sanders made a driving, left-handed layup with 21 seconds left to give the Golden Suns a 56-54 victory over Harding in a defensive battle Monday in Great American Conference action at Tucker Coliseum.

Harding (14-14, 10-10) had two attempts to tie or take the lead down the stretch but missed both attempts. The Lady Bisons remain in fourth place in the GAC standings, and has not yet clinched a berth in the GAC Tournament.

Arkansas Tech improved to 21-3 overall and 17-3 in the GAC. The Golden Suns are in second place, two games back of GAC leader Southwestern Oklahoma.

With 2:22 left, Harding's Peyton Padgett nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing to put the Lady Bisons ahead 54-52.

Tech's Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse tied it on Tech's next possession with two free throws that came after a long rebound on a missed 3-pointer.

Harding missed each of its last five shots. Sanders game-winner came after five consecutive Arkansas Tech missed over a four-minute stretch.

Smothering defense by both teams led to poor shooting percentages. Harding shot a season-low 27.8 percent (15 of 54), and Arkansas Tech shot only 32 percent (20 of 63).

Kellie Lampo led Harding with 16 points and nine rebounds, and Amanda Kearney added 13 points and six rebounds. Kylie Ladd led Arkansas Tech with 20 points. She had 12 of Tech's 24 points in the first half.

Harding plays its final two games at home, beginning Thursday against Arkansas-Monticello. Saturday's game against Henderson State is the team's Senior Night game. A win in either game would clinch Harding's tournament spot.
