Ward Scores Career-HIgh 24 in Harding Men's Loss to UAM

SEARCY – Harding senior Zac Ward scored 18 of his career-high 24 points in the first half, and junior Braden Eggleston netted 16 of his 18 points in the second half, but Harding's gallant effort fell just short in a 75-71 loss to Arkansas-Monticello Thursday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

After trailing by as many as 14 points with 14:33 left in the game, Harding (5-21, 5-16) went on a 10-0 run that included 3-pointers from Tim Wagner and Eggleston and cut the Weevil lead to 63-62 on an Adam Horn free throw with 3:11 left.

Arkansas-Monticello's Karim Mawuenyega answered with a 3-pointer that pushed the Weevils' lead back up to four. Harding trimmed the lead to three twice late but could not complete the comeback.

Ward made 7 of 13 shots, including 5 of 9 3-pointers, to score more than 20 points for the second time in his career. Eggleston made 6 of 9 attempts in the second half after making his only shot in the first half.

All five starters Arkansas-Monticello (17-10, 12-9) scored in double figures. Karim Mawuenyega led the team with 17.

Harding will play its final game of the season Saturday at home against Henderson State. Seniors Mitchell Kirby, Ward and Wagner will be honored in a postgame ceremony.
