Southwestern Oklahoma Sweeps Harding Baseball in Doubleheader

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma defeated Harding in both games of a Great American Conference doubleheader Sunday at the Weatherford Athletic Complex. The Bulldogs won game one 11-0 and game two 5-3. The teams will conclude the three-game series Monday at noon.

Harding (5-7, 1-3) trailed only 1-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, but Daniel Richardson's second home run of the game jumpstarted a six-run inning for Southwestern Oklahoma (7-5, 4-1). The Bulldogs added four more in the seventh, the game's final inning due to the NCAA's 10-run rule.

Two of Harding's five hits went for extra bases. Zach Beasley hit his third double and Chris Taylor had a triple, his first of the season. Beasley was 2-for-3, his second multi-hit game.

Myles Humphreys led off the third with a single, extending his career-best hitting streak to eight games.

Drew Grubb (1-2) pitched a complete game for Southwestern, allowing five hits and one walk and striking out six.

Austin Allen (1-3) suffered the loss. He gave up seven hits in 4 2/3 innings, but only two of his seven runs allowed were earned due to two costly Harding errors.

Harding had scoring chances early in game two, but left two runners on in each of the first three innings.

Southwestern led 4-0 after five innings, making the most of three hits to score three runs in the fifth.

Harding got on the board with three in the sixth. Luke Van Dover and Connor Kelly both drove in runs on fielder's choices, and Brooks Pitaniello drove in a run with a single to right. Harding left two on in the inning and trailed 4-3.

Southwestern tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Brady Burtner tripled with one out and scored on a wild pitch.

Harding had the tying runs on base in the top of the seventh but did not score.

Humphreys walked twice and was hit by a pitch twice, so without an official at-bat, his hitting streak continues at eight games.

Each of Harding's six hits in game two were singles.

Tanner Smith (2-2) allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings and took the loss. Jake Cowan (3-1) struck out 10 in 6 1/3 innings for the win.

Southwestern had seven hits, and Bulldog Chase Duncan drove in three runs.
