Late Free Throws Lift Harding Women's Basketball to Victory at Northwestern Oklahoma

ALVA – Harding freshman Carissa Caples made two free throws with 2.4 seconds left to give the Lady Bisons a 79-78 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma Saturday in Great American Conference action at Percefull Fieldhouse.

Officials called 56 fouls in the game with five players fouling out and the teams combining to shoot 78 free throws.

The victory gave Harding a 10-13 overall record and 6-9 mark in the GAC and was Harding's second win in its last three road games, moving the team into a three-way tie for seventh place in the standings. Northwestern fell to 9-12 overall and 5-10 in conference games and lost for the 12th straight time against Harding.

Northwestern took a 78-77 lead on Jade Jones' layup with 4.1 seconds remaining, but the Lady Rangers knocked Caples to the floor on the in-bounds pass, and Caples hit both free throws. Northwestern's desperation half-court shot at the buzzer hit off the backboard and missed.

Harding scored the game's first eight points, but Northwestern scored the next eight and led 16-12 after the first quarter. The Lady Rangers held that lead until a Kellie Lampo layup with 3:08 left in the game gave Harding the lead back. Lampo made a free throw with 1:56 left to give Harding a 73-72 lead, and Falan Miller made it 75-72 with a driving layup with 1:33 on the clock.

Harding fouled Destinee Robinson on a 3-pointer, and Robinson made all three free throws with nine seconds left to cut the Lady Bisons' lead to 77-76.

After two missed Harding free throws, Jones hit the go-ahead layup.

Kellie Lampo was one of five Harding players with 10 points or more. She had 17 points and 10 rebounds, connecting on 11 of 13 free throws. It was her third double-double of the season. Kennedy Cooper had 12 points, Amanda Kearney scored 11, and Sydney Layrock and Caples scored 10 each.

Harding made 28 of 41 free throws, the 10th-most free-throw attempts in program history. Northwestern Oklahoma was 27 of 37 at the free-throw line, 32 of the attempts coming in the second half.

Kinsey Neiderer led the Lady Rangers with 20 points.
