Harding Women's Basketball Outlasts Oklahoma Baptist

SEARCY – Harding senior Falan Miller scored 16 points and added six rebounds to lead the Lady Bisons to a 70-66 victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding improved to 11-13 overall and 7-9 in GAC games. The Lady Bisons, now in a three-way tie for fifth place in the conference standings, are 8-3 at home and have won five of their last six at home.

The loss snapped a three-game road winning streak for Oklahoma Baptist, who dropped to 12-10 overall and 7-9 in conference. Harding has now won all four meetings between the teams in Searcy.

Harding led 54-48 after three quarters. In the fourth, Harding made four of its first six shots, including a 3-pointer by Miller at the 6:00 mark and a layup at 4:17 by Peyton Padgett. It was Harding's last field goal of the game, but the Lady Bisons made 7 of 10 free throws in the quarter to maintain its lead.

Harding shot 53 percent (9 of 17) in the first quarter and limited Oklahoma Baptist to 4 of 16 shooting (25 percent). Harding also held a 14-7 rebound advantage in the period and a 14-6 points-in-the-paint advantage.

Harding cooled off to 31 percent (5 of 16) in the second quarter and was outscored 17-12. Harding led 35-32 at halftime.

McKenzie Cooper of Oklahoma Baptist led all scorers with 13 points at halftime.

Harding used a 9-0 run in the third quarter to push its lead to 46-37 on a Kennedy Cooper layup with 5:17 left.

Carissa Caples had 13 points for Harding. Amanda Kearney had 11 points, and Sydney Layrock had 10.

Cooper finished with 20 points to lead Oklahoma Baptist.

Harding, ranked fifth in Division II in rebounding, outrebounded Oklahoma Baptist 47-29.
