RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league's second Athlete of the Week awards for the women's outdoor track & field season. Harding's Chelsea Howard earned the Track Athlete of the Week award and Southern Arkansas' T'Keyah Crockett claimed the Field Athlete of the Week honor.
GAC WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Chelsea Howard, Harding, Jr., Texarkana, Texas
Howard won four events at the Harding Invitational and ran the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay squad that placed second. Her winning time in the 200-meter dash, 24.42 seconds, ranked as an NCAA provisional time. She won the 100 with a time of 12.00 seconds, fourth-tenths of second faster than the closest competitor. She added career-best mark in long jump, 5.18 meters.
GAC WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – T'Keyah Crockett, Southern Arkansas, Sr., Magnolia, Arkansas
Crockett won the discus event at the Harding Invitational with a program-record toss of 46.45 meters. The mark stands as the ninth-best mark in Division II and as an NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying mark. Additionally, she placed third in the hammer throw with a personal best mark of 42.26 meters.
NOTABLE WOMEN'S TRACK NOMINEES
- Kirby Roy, So., Southern Arkansas (Ran the opening leg of the winning 4x400 relay win at Harding; placed fourth in the 200)
- Leisa VanVooren, Jr., Oklahoma Christian (Took third among DII runners in the 400 at the Lane Invitational with a time of 59.97)
