SEARCY, Ark. – The Harding women's track and field team continues to establish itself as a national contender, moving up to No. 6 in the latest NCAA Division II National Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI) released Tuesday by the USTFCCCA.
The Lady Bisons earned 197.95 total points, bolstered by a series of elite performances at the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational. Harding currently sits as the second-highest ranked team in both the Central Region and the Great American Conference, trailing only Oklahoma Baptist.
Freshmen and Seniors Lead National Charge
Harding's ascent is highlighted by a balanced attack of veteran leadership and explosive freshman talent. Leading the way is freshman Erika Konovalenko, who surged to No. 5 in the national rankings following her school-record javelin toss of 50.26m (164-10) at the Texas Relays.
On the track, senior Josie Parks holds the No. 5 spot nationally in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time of 10:37.59. Joining them in the top tier is freshman Hannah Omosigho, who ranks No. 6 in the discus (50.03m), and junior Ally Cheek, who sits at No. 7 in the high jump (1.70m).
Depth in the Field and Sprints
The Lady Bisons feature seven individual performers currently ranked inside the national top 10:
The squad also boasts significant depth in the horizontal jumps and throwing circles. Sophomore Carly Tucker ranks No. 11 in the long jump (5.97m), while freshman Yedidya Bangue holds the No. 12 mark in the shot put (14.56m). In the triple jump, the senior duo of Onufriieva and Karyna Vehner (No. 13) provide a formidable one-two punch.
Relay Success
Harding's relay teams have also proven they belong on the national stage. The 4x100-meter team of Kelli Totman, Jerlana Williams, Kewes Gomes, and Leila Ngapout is currently ranked No. 12 in Division II (46.43). Additionally, the 4x400-meter squad of Jayden Bowman, Tetiana Kharashchuk, Ngapout, and Oreoluwa Odenike broke into the top 25 with their 3:49.38 performance in Austin.
Home Stand Ahead
The No. 6 Lady Bisons will now compete in front of a home crowd as Harding hosts a busy week of action at the Ted and Marcie Lloyd Track and Field Complex.
The Stallion Transportation Bison Multi is scheduled for April 9-10, followed by the Stallion Transportation Bryan Phillips Open on April 10-11. These home meets represent the final major opportunity for athletes to improve their national standing before the GAC Outdoor Championships begin on April 29.
