Van Dover Homers, Harding Pitchers Shut Down Union in 4-2 Victory

SEARCY – Sophomore Luke Van Dover hit a two-run home run, and Harding pitchers limited Union to a season-low two hits Tuesday in a 4-2 nonconference victory Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field.

The contest was Harding's last midweek game of the season. The Bisons will play their final regular season Great American Conference series beginning Friday at home against Arkansas Tech.

Harding improved to 26-21 with the win, the first time the team has been five games over .500 this season. Union, a member of the Gulf South Conference located in Jackson, Tennessee, dropped to 15-31 overall and 6-15 on the road.

Harding took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Chris Taylor's RBI single, and Van Dover made it 3-0 with his fifth home run of the season over the wall in left.

Freshman William St. Leger (3-1) started for the fourth time this season and went 5+ innings and allowed only one run and one hit. The hit was a single by Union's Spencer Schultz to lead off the third inning.

St. Leger, who lowered his ERA to 2.16 and allowed fewer than two earned runs for the eighth time in nine appearances this season, walked Hayden Lewis to open the sixth. Brian Tims came out of the bullpen to replace him and hit David Robins, the first batter he faced. He retired the next batter on a ground out with both runners moving up. Lewis scored on Nolen Milton's sacrifice fly.

Tims cruised through the next two innings. He went 3.0 innings and did not allow a hit, walking one and striking out two.

Harding tacked on a run in the eighth on Zach Beasley's RBI double that scored Van Dover.

Logan McCall got the last three outs for the Bisons, allowing one run but collecting his second save. Milton doubled in the inning for Union's second hit. He scored on a ground out.

Conner Kelly went 1-for-2 with three walks and has reached base in 23 straight games. Nolan Fertig, Van Dover, Beasley and Ben Bailey each had two hits.
