Guest, Fertig Homer to Lead Harding Baseball over Tech

SEARCY – Harding's Grant Guest and Nolan Fertig combined for six hits, five runs, six RBIs and two home runs to lead the Bisons to a 10-4 victory over Arkansas Tech Friday in Great American Conference action at Jerry Moore Field.

Winners of 20 of their last 26 games, the Bisons improved to 26-21 overall and 16-15 in the GAC. Despite the run of success, Harding will miss out on the GAC Tournament. Southwestern Oklahoma's victory over Northwestern Oklahoma locked up the No. 6 spot in the tournament for the Bulldogs.

Arkansas Tech, already qualified for the tournament, fell to 27-19 overall and 19-12 in conference games.

Guest homered to lead off the bottom of the first, his fifth of the season. He also had his 13th double and went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.

Fertig went 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs and hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot to right in the fourth.

Zach Beasley and Chris Taylor both had two hits.

Austin Allen (4-5) had his longest outing of the season, pitching eight innings and allowing six hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts, retiring 13 in a row over a stretch early in the game. Brian Tims got the final three outs.

Tech starter Michael Mueller (3-5) did not escape the second inning, allowing three runs on five hits.

The teams will conclude the series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Harding will honor its nine seniors in a ceremony beginning at 1:40 p.m.
