Baseball Bisons Open East Central Series with 10-5 Victory

ADA, Okla. – The top five hitters in Harding's lineup combined for 11 hits, and sophomore Austin Allen allowed only one earned run as Harding defeated East Central 10-5 Sunday in the first game of a three-game Great American Conference series. The two teams conclude the series Monday with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.

Harding (19-17, 10-12 GAC) scored multiple runs in three innings, scoring twice in the fourth, three times in the seventh and building an insurmountable lead with five in the ninth.

A Zach Beasley sacrifice fly and a Connor Kelly sacrifice bunt both scored runs in the second. Harding had four hits in the three-run seventh, and Grant Guest and Beasley both had two-run singles in the ninth.

Allen improved to 3-5 on the season, pitching 6 1/3 innings and allowing only one earned run on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Brian Tims came on to get the last two outs of the seventh and earned his first save of the season.

Allen has won twice in his last four starts and has a 2.63 ERA during that stretch with 17 strikeouts and five walks in 24 innings.

East Central's Kiyaanii Bohan (0-5) allowed four earned runs in 6 1/3 innings and got the loss.

Kelly led the Harding offense with three hits, and four other players had two. It was Kelly's fourth game this season with three hits or more. Luke Van Dover doubled twice and is tied for the team lead with 11 doubles this season.

The win was Harding's fourth straight and 11th in its last 12 games. The Bisons are in eighth place in the GAC standings, three games back of Oklahoma Baptist, currently in sixth place and holding the final GAC Tournament spot.
