Harding Men's Soccer Ties Texas A&M-International 1-1 in Season Opener

SEARCY – For the third time in the last four seasons, Harding men's soccer opened its campaign with an overtime game. The Bisons tied 1-1 with Texas A&M-International Thursday in a game played at the Toyota Soccer Center, home of Major League Soccer's FC Dallas.

After a scoreless first half, Harding's Peter Hmung, a sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, opened the scoring in the 69th minute. His third career goal came off a corner kick taken by Julio Martins.

Texas A&M-International, a member of the Division II Heartland Conference, equalized in the 82nd minute. Elias Perales scored on a header off a free kick from Charlie Michel.

Texas A&M-International had the only shot on goal in the two 10-minute overtime periods, and Harding goalkeeper Michael Wasson made the save.

Harding plays its second straight road game Saturday at 1 p.m. against Oklahoma Christian in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Facts and Figures
- In 2015, Harding opened its season with a 1-1 tie with Dallas Baptist, and in 2016, Harding lost 1-0 in double overtime at Dallas Baptist.

- Harding's last win in a season opener came 2-1 at Williams Baptist in 2012.

- Peter Hmung's two previous career goals came in the same game at Southern Nazarene last season.

- Harding had four players make their first starts as Bisons: D Donnell Bowes, M Jack Savage, F Peter Hmung and M Abraham Lopez.

- Harding goalkeeper Michael Wasson tied a career high with nine saves.

- Texas A&M-International outshot Harding 23-11 overall and 10-4 in shots on goal.
