Oklahoma Baptist Holds Off Late Harding Rally

SEARCY – A frantic Harding comeback fell just short Thursday against Great American Conference leaders Oklahoma Baptist. The Bisons got within one point on a late Gabriel Divic 3-pointer, but Oklahoma Baptist made two free throws, and Colin Hale's potential game-tying 3-pointer caromed off the rim in a 70-67 loss at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding fell to 5-8 overall and 3-4 in the GAC. Oklahoma Baptist won its third straight and improved to 7-6 overall and 6-1 in conference. Oklahoma Baptist is tied with Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello for first place in the GAC standings.

Harding led 33-31 early in the second half but made only one field goal over the next eight minutes as Oklahoma Baptist went on a 16-2 run. Oklahoma Baptist led 47-35 with 11:12 remaining. Harding made 12 of its last 17 shots down the stretch.

Harding pulled within two points three times and trailed 57-55 with 3:00 left. Divic hit his first of two 3-pointers with 16 seconds left to cut the Oklahoma Baptist lead to 67-64. OBU's Davion Turner made the second of two free throws to give his team a four-point lead. Divic hit a long 3-pointer with 8.1 seconds left to pull Harding within one point. Brantley Thompson made two free throws with 6.3 seconds left, and Oklahoma Baptist held on for the win.

Romen Martin led Harding with 15 points. He was 5-of-11 shooting and made three of Harding's five 3-pointers. JV Long added 14 points and Gojko Djokovic had a season-high 12.

Thompson led all players with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Oklahoma Baptist held a 47-29 rebounding advantage, but Harding outscored them 16-8 off turnovers.

Djokovic and Martin both came off the bench and scored eight points each to help Harding battle back from a 9-0 deficit to trail only 29-28 at halftime.

Harding is back at home Saturday and hosts nationally ranked Southern Nazarene at 3 p.m.
