Southern Nazarene's Second-Half Start Sinks Harding

SEARCY – No. 15 Southern Nazarene scored the first 10 points of the second half to open a close game and defeat Harding 85-60 Saturday in Great American Conference men's basketball action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The 10-0 run was part of a larger 16-1 run to open the second half for Southern Nazarene, who won its sixth straight in the series. The Crimson Storm improved to 13-3 overall and 6-2 in the GAC.

Harding dropped its fifth straight and fell to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in conference.

Harding missed its final two shots of the first half and its first 12 of the second half and fell behind 60-37 with 13:22 remaining. The Bisons got no closer than 17 the rest of the way.

Roman Martin led Harding with both 19 points and eight rebounds. Gabriel Divic made three 3-pointers and scored 14.

Noah Starkey made 10 of 15 shots and scored 24 points to lead Southern Nazarene, who shot 50 percent as a team, made eight 3-pointers and connected on 17 of 23 free throws.

Harding shot 25 percent (8 of 32) in the second half and 32 percent (19 of 59) for the game.

Harding weathered a 19-1 Southern Nazarene run in the first half and used 25 points from its reserves to stay within 45-36 at halftime.

Martin came in and made 4 of 5 shots, including two 3-pointers, and scored 11 points. Divic had eight off the bench in the first half.

Starkey scored 12 in the first half to lead Southern Nazarene, who shot 46 percent overall and had five 3-pointers. Both teams made 10 free throws in the first half.

Harding is back in action Thursday for its third straight home game. The Bisons will host Arkansas Tech at 7:30 p.m.
