WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma junior Tre Evans scored 45 points, his second 40-point game of the season and the most in a single game by a Great American Conference player, to lead the Bulldogs to an 89-82 victory over Harding Saturday at the Pioneer Events Center.
Southwestern snapped a 21-game losing streak in home conference games with the win and improved to 4-14 overall and 1-11 in the GAC. Harding fell to 5-13 overall and 3-9 in conference.
Harding's Adam Horn scored a career-high 23 points and had 13 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
Evans did most of his damage at the free-throw line, where he shot 27-of-34. Both were the most ever by a Harding opponent. The official stats showed that Harding fouled Evans 21 times.
As a team, Southwestern shot 41-of-57 at the free throw line, also both Harding opponent records. The Bisons were 14-of-27 at the line.
Harding led for the majority of the game and held a 59-49 advantage with 11:15 left in the game. Southwestern began to chip away and took a 72-71 lead on Chris Braggs's layup with 5:09 left. Harding tied the game once but never regained the lead.
Evans scored 19 points in the first half, but Harding led 36-35 at the break. Harding shot 38 percent, and limited Southwestern to 33 percent.
Harding is back in action Thursday, hosting Southeastern Oklahoma at 7:30 p.m.
