Harding Posts 3-0 Shutout for First Win over Northeastern State

SEARCY – Harding men's soccer had not beaten Northeastern State in the first 18 meetings between the teams, but Saturday belonged to the Bisons.

Three different Harding players scored and senior goalkeeper Carlos Calderon made six saves to give the Bisons a 3-0 shutout in Great American Conference action at Stevens Soccer Field.

The win moved Harding to 6-3-1 overall and into second place in the GAC with a 5-2-0 record. Northeastern State dropped to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Freshman Joe Ruedi scored Harding's quickest goal of the season only 101 seconds into the action. Ruedi tapped in a cross from Oliver Callado for his third goal of the season. It was Ruedi's first game-winning goal.

Another freshman, Joseph Oliver, scored his first collegiate goal just before halftime on an assist from Peter Hmung, and senior Christian Ramos added his team-leading eighth in the 79th minute on a feed from Ruedi.

Ramos's goal was the 25th of his career, joining Ben Faris (41, 2002-05) as the only Harding players with 25 or more career goals.

The shutout was Calderon's fourth of the season.

Harding plays its second of three straight home games Thursday at 7 p.m. against Southern Nazarene.
