No. 23 Fort Hays Scores Late to Defeat Harding Men's Soccer

HAYS, Kan. – Harding men's soccer scored early on a free kick and a corner kick but 23rd-ranked Fort Hays State scored three second-half goals to defeat the Bisons 3-2 Thursday in Great American Conference play.

Despite the loss, Harding remained in second place in the GAC standings at 7-4-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the GAC. Fort Hays State remained atop the conference at 9-4-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the GAC.

Fort Hays State's Rogelio Lopez scored the game-winning goal with just over six minutes left in the game to break the 2-2 tie. His goal came 10 minutes after Harding went a man down when sophomore defender Donnell Bowes received his second yellow of the game.

Moises Peralta tied the game in the 73rd minute after Alonso Rodriguez scored Fort Hays's first goal in the 56th minute.

GAC scoring leader Christian Ramos added to his goal tally on a free kick just over eight minutes into the game to give Harding a 1-0 lead. It was Ramos's 14th goal of the season, moving him within two goals of Ben Faris's school record, set in 2003.

Less than seven minutes later, Bowes scored his first career goal on a header of Oliver Callado's corner kick. The Bisons held the lead for just less than 60 minutes of play.

Harding will stay in Kansas and take on Newman Saturday at 1 p.m.
