Harding Women's Basketball Falls 76-71 at Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Harding junior Kellie Lampo had 17 points and 10 rebounds but the 18th-ranked Lady Bisons could not overcome a season-high turnover total and fell 76-71 to Southern Arkansas in Great American Conference play at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.

Harding fell to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the GAC, while Southern Arkansas snapped a three-game losing skid to the Lady Bisons and improved to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Harding forced 38 turnovers by Southern Arkansas and had 21 steals in the game, the most by the Lady Bisons since setting the school record with 28 steals against Lambuth in 2010.

Abbie Jiles and Kennedy Cooper both scored five points in the first quarter, and Harding led 16-14 after one. The Lady Bisons committed 12 turnovers in the second quarter and were outscored 20-10 in the period to trail 34-26 at halftime.

Harding trailed by as many as 13 in the third quarter, but a 9-0 run by the Lady Bisons late in the fourth tied the game at 66-66 with 2:19 left. Carissa Caples had two buckets during the run and Jacie Evans tied it with a jumper in the paint on a fast break.

Southern Arkansas scored the next three points on free throws and held on for the win.

Lampo connected on 6 of 7 shots and recorded her third double-double of the season. Kennedy Cooper scored a season-high 13 points and Jacie Evans added 12 points for her second straight game in double figures.

Amanda Kearney had a career-high six steals, the most by a Lady Bison since A'ndi Haney had seven against Arkansas-Monticello in 2016.

Diamond Morris made 9 of 10 free throws and led Southern Arkansas with 21 points. Kylie Warren came off the bench to score 11. Southern Arkansas made 28 of 37 free throws, both were season highs by a Harding opponent.

Harding goes out of conference for its next action to take on Central Oklahoma on Tuesday in Edmond, Oklahoma.
