Fourth-Quarter Drought Sinks Harding at UCO

EDMOND, Okla. – A strong third quarter put Harding women's basketball in position for a comeback victory over Central Oklahoma Tuesday, but a fourth-quarter scoring drought sent the Lady Bisons to an 87-74 loss in the nonconference matchup.

Harding fell to 3-3 overall with all three losses on the road. The Lady Bisons return to the Rhodes-Reaves Field House and to Great American Conference play on Dec. 7 against Henderson State.

Central Oklahoma, a member of the MIAA, won its third straight against Harding and improved to 5-1 overall. The two teams had not played since 2000, when both were members of the Lone Star Conference.

Harding trailed 20-14 after one quarter and 45-35 at halftime, but had its best stretch during the third quarter. The Lady Bisons tied the game at 56-56 on an Amanda Kearney free throw and took a 59-56 lead with 1:55 left in the quarter on Jacie Evans's three-point play.

Central Oklahoma retook the lead on two McKenna Pulley free throws with no time left in the period.

Central Oklahoma hit the first two shots of the fourth quarter before Harding's Kellie Lampo had a three-point play with 6:17 left that cut the Bronchos lead to 66-64. Harding did not make another shot until Carissa Caples's 3-pointer with 2:10 left. At that point, Central Oklahoma led 78-70 and pulled away.

Harding shot 3 of 21 in the fourth quarter and was outscored 25-13. Central Oklahoma shot 54% in the quarter and made all 12 of its free-throw attempts.

Harding had five players with 12 points or more led by Caples, who made three of the Lady Bisons's seven 3-pointers and scored a season-high 18 points. Lampo, who has scored 12 or more points in every game this season, had 14 before fouling out.

Evans was in double figures for the third straight game and scored a season-high 13 points, earning her second straight start. Kearney and Kennedy Cooper each had 12 points. It was a season high for Kearney.

Central Oklahoma shot 46%, the highest by a Harding opponent this season. Micayla Haynes led the Bronchos with 22 points, hitting four of UCO's seven 3-pointers.
