Southern Arkansas Defeats Harding Men's Basketball 72-53

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Harding junior Romio Harvey scored 19 points but cold shooting in the second half sunk the Bisons in a 72-53 loss to Southern Arkansas Saturday in Great American Conference play at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.

Harding (3-3, 0-2) shot 37% in the first half and had the game tied at 27-27 at halftime, but made only 7 of 27 (26%) in the second half. Southern Arkansas (2-3, 1-1) shot 55% in the second half and outscored Harding 26-8 in the paint after the break to pull away.

A 12-2 run by Southern Arkansas early in the second half gave the Muleriders a 43-31 lead with 14:06 left. A 3-pointer from Harvey with 13:14 left pulled Harding within nine points, but the Bisons got no closer.

Harvey, who entered the game as the eighth-leading scorer in Division II, fell one point short of the 20-point mark. He was the first Harding player to score 20 or more points in five straight games since Andraz Kavas had seven straight 20-point games in 2015. No other Harding player scored more than six points.

Devante Brooks made 11 of 14 shots for Southern Arkansas and tied his career high with 24 points.

Harding next plays Tuesday against Ecclesia, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association, located in Springdale, Arkansas. Tipoff at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House is at 7:30 p.m.
