Harding Women Rally Late, Defeat Henderson State

SEARCY – Harding junior Kellie Lampo made the game-winning layup with 39 seconds left, and the Lady Bisons weathered six missed shots by Henderson State on the Reddies's last possession to win 66-64 in Great American Conference action Saturday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding snapped a three-game skid and improved to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in conference with its fifth straight home victory dating to last season. The Lady Bisons have won the last three games against Henderson State and four straight over the Reddies in Searcy.

Henderson State dropped to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in conference and had its five-game winning streak end.

The game was tied three times in the final three minutes, the last coming on a layup by Henderson State's Maci Mains with 54 seconds remaining. Harding took the lead on its next trip when Kennedy Cooper found Lampo open under the basket for a layup.

Henderson State missed two 3-pointers and four consecutive layups on its final possession after collecting five offensive rebounds.

Harding won without connecting on a 3-pointer. The Lady Bisons were 0 for 9 from long range and did not make a 3-pointer for the first time since Jan. 12, 2013, against Ouachita Baptist.

Harding scored 50 points in the paint. All but one field goal, a jumper from Carissa Caples early in the fourth quarter, came in the lane for the Lady Bisons.

Cooper led Harding in scoring for the first time this season with a season-high 17 points. She made 7 of 11 shots and had seven rebounds. Lampo had 14 points and 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Caples and Cheyenne Brown had 12 each.

Harding shot 56% in the first quarter, limited Henderson State to 20%, and led 21-11.

Henderson State outscored Harding 20-7 in the second quarter, including a 17-2 run. The Lady Bisons went without a point for a six-minute stretch between an early jumper from Brown and a layup from Brown with 3:30 left in the quarter, Harding's only two field goals in the period.

Henderson State led 31-28 at halftime and 53-48 after three quarters.

Harding is back in action next Saturday at home against Ouachita Baptist.
