Harding Women's Basketball Sinks Emporia State in Season Opener

SEARCY – Harding shot 56% from the field and connected on 10 3-pointers to defeat Emporia State 75-62 Friday at the Big Red Classic, hosted by Harding at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The contest was a rematch of 2017 NCAA Division II Central Region championship game, a game that Harding won 58-56, sending them to the Elite Eight.

Junior Kellie Lampo led Harding (1-0) with 21 points and nine rebounds. Lampo shot 7 of 11 from the field and 7 of 10 from the free-throw line. Carissa Caples scored 15 points, all coming on 3-pointers, and Cheyenne Brown added 11 points.

An 11-0 run during the third quarter was the key stretch. Emporia led 43-41 with 6:03 left, but Harding got an old-fashioned three-point play from Lampo, followed by 3-pointers from Caples and Kennedy Cooper, then another Lampo layup to take a 52-43 lead with 3:34 remaining in the period.

Tre'Zure Jobe led Emporia (0-1) with 21 points.

Harding returns to the court Saturday at 4:45 p.m. to take on Missouri Southern.
