SEARCY – Junior transfer Romio Harvey scored 27 points in his Harding debut, but the Bisons fell 78-65 to Minot State of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Friday in the Big Red Classic at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House. It was the season opener for both teams.

Harvey, a native of Albany, Georgia, and transfer from NOC-Enid in Oklahoma, made 10 of 18 from the field and 6 of 10 free throws. Junior transfer Joel Polius added 11 points for the Bisons.

Minot State (1-0) led by as many as 11 in the first half and took a 34-28 lead into halftime. Harding cut the lead to 43-36 on two Polius free throws with 12:23 left, but the Bisons never got closer.

The Beavers, who had a 14-18 record last season, pushed their lead to 17 on Kody Dwyer's dunk with 3:34 left.

Harvey had 16 of his 27 points in the second half, continually getting to the basket on slashing drives. He made five layups in the game's final three minutes.

Kyle Beisch, Minot State's leading returning scorer, topped the Beavers with 21 points. Max Cody added 18 points and seven assists, and Trevor Rothstein had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Harding (0-1) returns to action Saturday for a 7:15 p.m. tip against St. Cloud State.
