Harding Comeback Falls Short in Three-Point Loss to Ouachita

SEARCY – Harding made a valiant run at overcoming a 16-point second-half deficit but lost 73-70 to Ouachita Baptist Saturday in Great American Conference men's basketball action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Ouachita won its third straight and improved to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the GAC. Harding had a three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in conference games.

A three-point play from Ouachita's Kendarious Smith with 11:37 left in the game gave the Tigers a 61-45 lead. Harding answered with seven straight points, five coming from Romio Harvey, and trimmed the lead to 61-52.

Ouachita extended its lead to 14 at 67-53 on a jumper by Raymond Harris with 7:14 left. Harding made six free throws, got a layup from Emir Ahmedic and a 3-pointer from Harvey and trailed only 67-64 with 1:53 left.

Harding's defense forced a long 3-point from Morris Talbert that missed, but Smith's putback layup pushed the Tiger lead back to five points at 69-64. Harding got within three points three times late but could not complete the comeback.

Harvey led Harding with 28 points. He made 7 of 16 from the field, including a season-high six 3-pointers, and was 8 of 9 from the free-throw line. Harvey had 19 points in the second half.

Jordan West scored 10 of his season-high 17 points in the second half. It was his second straight game in double figures.

Gabriel Divic made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points. It was his seventh straight game with multiple 3-pointers made.

Ouachita had four players with 10 or more points, led by 18 from senior Allie Freeman, who had scored two points in his first two games of the season after joining the basketball team when football ended. He was 5-of-5 from the field with four 3-pointers in the first half and scored 16 of his career-high point total before the break.

Harding has a long break before playing again. The Bisons will be back in action Jan. 2 against East Central in Searcy.
