Strong Start Sends East Central Past Harding

SEARCY – East Central used a strong start and 12 3-pointers in a 91-73 victory over Harding Thursday in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

The Tigers improved to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the GAC with their seventh straight victory. Harding fell to 6-5 overall and 1-4 in conference games.

East Central, who entered the game averaging a GAC-best 92.3 points per game, made 12 of its first 16 shots and pulled out to an early 20-7 lead on a Camron Talley 3-pointer with 16:24 left in the half. Harding closed to within nine points twice in the half, but East Central answered each time and led by as many as 18 late in the half. East Central led 54-38 at halftime.

Harding closed the gap to 54-44 early in the second half but got no closer. East Central led by as many as 22.

Five players scored in double figures for East Central, led by Talley with 27. He made 9 of 20 shots, including 5 of 11 3-pointers.

Romio Harvey led Harding with 27 points. He was 13 of 15 at the free-throw line. Collier Blackburn added 11 points.

Harvey has led Harding in scoring in nine of 11 games this season and has eight games with 20 or more points.

Harding's opponents shot only 31% from 3-point range this season, but East Central connected on 12 of 25, hitting six in each half.

The Bisons made 22 of 27 free throws (82%), it third time this season with 20 or more.

Harding will be back in action Saturday in Searcy against Southeastern Oklahoma. Tipoff at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House will be at 3 p.m.
