Harding Stays Perfect at Home, Defeats Ouachita 71-61

SEARCY – Harding took advantage of its size and depth in the low post and weathered Ouachita Baptist's best shooting effort of the season to defeat the Tigers 71-61 in Great American Conference action at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House Saturday.

Harding won its sixth straight home game dating to last season and improved to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the GAC. It was the Lady Bisons's seven straight win over the Tigers and eighth straight in Searcy.

Ouachita lost its 14th consecutive road game and fell to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the GAC.

Harding outrebounded Ouachita, who only played seven players in the game, 50-28 and had 26 offensive rebounds that led to a 30-2 advantage on second-chance points.

Kellie Lampo and Cheyenne Brown both had 17 points, and Kennedy Cooper added 14. Lampo had 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double overall and fourth in the last five games.

Lampo also passed Jama Fullerton and Montana Lewis to move into 14th place on Harding's career scoring list with 1,098 points.

Ouachita, who shot a season-high 51% from the field, took its first lead of the game on a Madison Brittain 3-pointer with 3:02 left in the third quarter that gave the Tigers a 46-45 advantage.

The lead lasted only 13 seconds, and Harding went back ahead on a Lampo layup that started an 8-0 Lady Bison run to end the quarter. Harding led 53-46 entering the fourth.

Ouachita got as close as five points three times in the fourth but a 7-0 Harding run midway through the period helped the Lady Bisons pull away.

Maija Gertsone led Ouachita with a career-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.

The Tigers had only three offensive rebounds and shot just 8 of 19 (42%) at the free-throw line.

Sophomore Jordan Elder saw her first action of the season for the Lady Bisons and scored eight points. Jacie Evans had seven points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Harding plays twice more before Christmas break. The Lady Bisons will play Fort Hays St. Wednesday and Washburn Thursday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
