Harding Wins Third Straight, Downs Henderson State

SEARCY – Junior Romio Harvey scored a season-high 34 points, Harding connected on a season-high 13 3-pointers, and the Bisons defeated Henderson State 89-77 in Great American Conference men's basketball action Saturday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding (6-3, 1-2) won its third straight overall and its fifth consecutive at home. Henderson State (6-2, 2-1) had its five-game winning streak snapped and lost to Harding for the first time since 2017.

Harvey scored 22 of his points in the second half. For the game, he connected on 10 of 20 from the field, including 5 of 9 3-pointers, and shot 9 of 11 from the foul line. His 34 points were the most by a Harding player since Tim Wagner scored 34 against Northern State in 2016.

Harding made 8 of 16 3-pointers and outscored Henderson State 51-49 in the second half. The Bisons shot 45% from 3-point range, the second straight game Harding made more than 10 3s and shot over 40% percent from long range.

Harding opened the game on a 9-0 run, shot 42% in the first half, and led 38-28 at halftime.

Henderson State pulled within seven points at 51-44 on two Xavier Davenport free throws with 12:06 left. Harding answered with 3-pointers from Gabriel Divic and Jordan West, and another 3-pointer from West with 7:33 left gave Harding a 70-51 lead, its largest of the game.

Henderson State closed to within eight points twice late in the game, but Harding made six free throws down the stretch.

The Bisons made 24 of 28 (86%) free throws, including 17 of 19 (90%) in the second half.

West scored a season-high 13 points. Divic made multiple 3-pointers for the sixth straight game and added 11 points, and Joel Polius and Tyler Hutchieson had 10 points each.

Five players scored 10 or more points for Henderson State, led by Rel Johnson with 15.

Harding will play its final game before the Christmas break next Saturday at home against Ouachita Baptist.
