Harding Shutout 3-0 in Series Opener at No. 13 Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Harding had its nine-game winning streak snapped Sunday with a 3-0 loss to No. 13 Southern Arkansas in the first game of a three-game Great American Conference series at Goodheart Field.

Harding starter Austin Allen and Southern Arkansas starter Garrett Walker traded zeros for the first six innings. In the seventh, Southern Arkansas (8-3, 4-0) leadoff hitter Brett McGee reached and came around to score the first of three runs in the inning.

Allen (2-2) gave up only two hits and one earned run in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked two. Brian Tims allowed two runs in the final 1 2/3 innings.

Walker (2-0) struck out five and allowed three hits and four walks but held Harding scoreless. Matt Kortendick earned his second save with two scoreless inning of relief.

Harding (9-4, 3-1) had four hits and drew four walks. Luke Van Dover and David Butterfield had singles and Luke Whitaker and Ben Brauss each doubled.

The series continues Monday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
