Harding and Ozarks Split Nonconference Doubleheader

SEARCY – Harding and University of the Ozarks split a pair of well-pitched games Tuesday in a nonconference doubleheader at Jerry Moore Field. Ozarks, an NCAA III opponent from Clarksville, Arkansas, won the opener 4-1, and Harding used a complete game pitching effort to win game two 2-1.

Harding (11-6) hosts East Central in Great American Conference action this weekend with the series scheduled to begin Friday. Ozarks moved to 6-6 with the split.

Game 1
Harding had seven hits in the opener but left 10 runners on and could not overcome a three-run second inning from Ozarks.

Harding's lone run came in the sixth on Jack Thomas's RBI two-out bases loaded single, his eighth RBI of the season. The Bisons left the bases loaded and stranded seven over the last three innings.

Dylan Adcock (0-1) took the loss for the Bisons. Making his first start, he allowed four runs on six hits over 3 1/3 innings. He had two walks and two strikeouts. Matt Sherry relieved and pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings.

Ozarks starter Garrett Williams (1-2) gave up a run on five hits in five innings to earn the win.

Game 2
Harding's Ty Hoecker (2-0) made his second start and did not allow an earned run in a complete game victory. He struck out eight and walked three while giving up only two hits.

Ozarks scored an unearned run in the top of the first, but Harding tied the game on David Butterfield's sacrifice fly in the second.

Two Ozarks errors led to Harding's go-ahead run in the third. Nolan Fertig singled to lead off the inning and went to third on a wild pickoff throw. He scored when Ben Bailey reached on another error.

Harding had seven hits in the game, including two each from Fertig, Miles Humphreys and Brooks Pitaniello.

Luke Van Dover had hits in both games and has now reached base in all 17 games this season.
