Baseball Bisons Fall 2-1 at Oklahoma Baptist in Series Opener

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Harding left runners on in seven innings and stranded 11 total in a 2-1 loss to Oklahoma Baptist Friday in Great American Conference play at Bison Park.

Harding fell to 14-10 overall and 7-6 in the GAC. Oklahoma Baptist improved to 13-9 overall and 9-4 in conference. The teams conclude the three-game series Saturday with a noon doubleheader.

Harding took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Ben Brauss singled with two outs and advanced to second on an error. He scored on Brendan Perrett's single to center. Oklahoma Baptist used a Harding error to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

Harding's best chance to retake the lead came in the seventh when the Bisons loaded the bases with no outs but failed to score.

Oklahoma Baptist took advantage of a leadoff walk in the bottom of the eighth to score the winning run. Brock Carter walked and went to second on a passed ball. He scored on Ramon Enriquez's double.

Harding had the tying run at second in the ninth but left the runner on.

Tanner Smith (3-4) took the loss for Harding. He pitched 7 2/3 innings and allowed only five hits and one earned run. He walked five and struck out three.

Reliever Shane Kelso (5-1) pitched the eighth and ninth for Oklahoma Baptist and received the win.

Nolan Fertig led Harding, going 2-for-5 with a stolen base. Luke Van Dover singled in the first inning and has reached base in all 24 games.
